Rooting against Canadian small market franchises is un-Canadian. If you want to slam teams that compete against the Canucks, can I recommend the Dallas Stars.

Larkin: according to your logic, I should concede that Abe Lincoln was a moron, Dieffenbaker was a genious, the Canadian military did a great job in Somalia, and that the RCMP did the right thing with Maher Arar? I think one of the great things about being Canadian is that I have the bullocks to speak what I believe- and not sucuumb to rampid nationalism. I do not mean to speak out against the "motherland", but rather feel a strong enough national identity that forming a negeative opinion about one of our hockey teams is "ok".:P

Do you mean 'rampant' nationalism because 'rampid' is not a word. Having grown up a Canucks fan, I know the last thing you should do is cheer them on. It makes them choke. Worrying about the Flames when the Stars are your opponent is just the kind of distraction that ends playoff runs. Hockey's not politics.

Yeah, ok. I can't spell. That is because my first written labguage is French- you know the other national language? I suppose you speak it fluently also as you are very CANADIAN.

I suppose you might discuss this matter with those who watched the 1972 Canada- Soviet Hockey Series. Have you read about the cold war?

Is Canada not a a political entity?If so, than "un-Canadian" is political.

I am very familiar with the summit series in 1972. I own it on DVD. The clash of ideals. As close as politics and hockey have come to being the same. However, just as war and politics are often closely associated but are not the same, hockey is war/business but the prize is not political, geo-political or any other kind of political. Stanley Cup. That's it. Politicians can't win it or be elected to it. None of the coaches are politicians, and you can't just buy it. Canada may be a 'Political entity' to some, the rest of us call it HOME.

It is fine to cheer your favourite (home) team, but it has to suck being the 'Homer' fan when your team is gone from the playoffs (or never made it). What then? Is it OK to cheer for someone else at that point? How would you decide what your next favourite team is? Or do you forget the national pastime for the rest of the playoffs because your team didn't make it?

Last years Oilers enjoyed support from all across the country. Why? Because they were the last Canadian team playing.

REAL hockey fans know.

You're a Nucks fan because you are a Homer. The same reason you should be a fan of 5 other teams when necessary.

Oh yeah, the Summit Series was 35 fucking years ago and everything has changed in hockey, politics and the politics of hockey. More importantly, that was TEAM CANADA, not an NHL franchise. So it really isn't relevant to Van vs. Dal or vs. Cal.

But at the end of the story he ended up liking them ...
